I am an accountant with an MBA and decades of experience. As Mohave County Treasurer, I will appoint a Chief Deputy with an Accounting and Investment education and background; preferably a Certified Public Accountant. I intend to explore opportunities to outsource where necessary within Mohave County to keep our tax dollars here. I will analyze investment opportunities to minimize risk and maximize return to the County taxpayers.

Our County treasurer’s office is currently being run by a senior staff without accounting and finance knowledge or education. Our current Treasurer and Chief Deputy Treasurer are paid in excess of $120,000 and are not able to perform their jobs without a consultant. This consultant is under contract and cost County taxpayers over $160,000 in 2011. Mohave County currently has approximately $190M in “excess” funds. More than 85% of these funds are invested in 3 separate types of bank bonds which include Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Your $190M is earning less than 1% return. There are several items outsourced from the Treasurer’s Office to companies outside of Mohave County.
One of the ways Mohave County Citizens’ taxes are spent is on the cost of running their Government. When the cost of the Government is lowered, the tax burden on the Citizens of Mohave County is lower.
There are many ways this can be achieved. The first item on the agenda is to work closely with other departments within the County to be sure we are not wasting time by duplicating efforts. Close working relationships within the departments of the County allow free flow of information and the ability to examine and analyze where costs can be cut.
Treasurer and Treasurer’s Office Serves the Citizens of Mohave County:
The Citizens of Mohave County are the Treasurer’s Office customers. Serving the customer at the highest level in any business is the number one goal and Government should be no different. Customer Service EXCELLENCE is what the Treasurer’s Office will provide. Expansion of the ways the Citizens of Mohave County are able to pay their taxes by maximizing access wherever and whenever possible is one goal. Another is the access to your Treasurer’s Office. An Open Door Policy widens the lines of communication with you, the Citizens, and allows you to have a say in the way you are being served.
Highest Caliber of Management:
The current staffing in the Treasurer’s Office may be perfect for the office. However, when employees are well-informed and empowered with the knowledge they need to execute the tasks of their jobs they are better able to serve the Citizens of Mohave County.
Education is the beginning of this process which starts with analysis of each employee’s core competencies. Assisting and encouraging each employee to rise to the highest level of those competencies to ensure every employee has what it takes to perform their job with premium skills.
The next step in this process is cross training. Employees should be able to cover for one another. Once implemented the Citizens of Mohave County are served faster and not left waiting for someone to return from lunch, a sick day or vacation. When you, as a Citizen of Mohave County, take your time to come to your Treasurer’s Office you will be served quickly, efficiently and treated with the utmost respect and kindness.
Lowering the cost of Government, serving YOU the Citizens of Mohave County at the highest Customer Service level will be achieved with the right Management. To this end I have earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting Theory and Practice and a Masters in Business Administration. My decades of experience managing multi-million dollar budgets in corporations such as Hilton Hotels, Paramount, Mohave County and Kingman Regional Medical Center all make me the candidate that will fully understand your needs and fulfill them in every way possible!
